TRANSFER STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM
The Leona Valley SERTOMA Scholarship Program identifies and rewards local students who have shown personal and
intellectual qualities through participation and leadership in extracurricular and community activities.  A $1,000 scholarship
will be awarded to a transferring student to be used to advance his/her education at an accredited college/university.

AREA OF ELIGIBILITY
Community college students living in Leona Valley, Green Valley, Lake Hughes or Lake Elizabeth.

QUALIFICATIONS
To be eligible, an Entry Application must be filled out and submitted to Leona Valley SERTOMA by  1 April 1 2009.   Along with
the Entry Application, the student must provide:
                         
                          1)  A transcript of the grades for each semester completed at the Community College.

                          2)  List your community involvement such as Scouting, 4-H, FFA, Church etc. The record of community
                               service should include a description of activities you were involved in, references or documents establishing service.

                          3)  A 500-word, double spaced, typed/written essay on the subject "What community service means to me
                               and how I have benefited from the experience".

                          4)  A letter of acceptance/proof of registration from an established/ accredited school, college or university
                              starting the fall semester of the 2009 academic year.

 If the letter of acceptance/proof of registration is not available by April 1, 2009, the student should still submit the Entry
Application along with items 1, 2, and 3.  The selection committee will make the selection but no announcement
or award will be made until the letter of acceptance/proof of acceptance is received.   This must be received by May 1, 2009
or the runner-up will be awarded the scholarship.

JUDGING
Judging is confidential and will be based on the following formula:

                                       Community involvement - 50%
                                       Grades - 30%
                                       Essay - 20%

All Entry Applications, along with the accompanying data must be in a sealed envelope.  On the front of the envelope,
write, "SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM"  and deposit in the SERTOMA box at the Rancher's Market,  9001 Elizabeth Lake
Road, Leona Valley, OR mail to SERTOMA, P.O. Box 723, Leona Valley, CA 93551
