STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Purpose of Program
The Leona Valley SERTOMA Scholarship Program identifies and rewards local students who have shown personal and intellectual qualities through participation and leadership in extracurricular and community activities. Scholarships will be award in amounts up to $1,000 to the best candidates to be used to advance their education.

AREA OF ELIGIBILITY
Senior High level students living in Leona Valley, Green Valley, Lake Hughes or Lake Elizabeth.  This would include independent study students and home schooled students.

QUALIFICATIONS
To be eligible, an Entry Application must be filled out and turned in to Leona Valley SERTOMA by April 1, 2009. Along with the entry application, the student must provide:

        1)  A transcript of the grades for the 10th, 11th, and first semester of the senior year.

        2)  List your community involvement such as Scouting, 4-H, FFA, Church etc. The record of community service should include a
             description of activities you were involved in, references, and documents establishing service.

        3)  A 500-word, double spaced, typed/written essay on the subject "What community service means to me and how I have
             benefited from the experience".

        4)  A letter of acceptance/proof of registration from an established/accredited school, college or university starting the fall
             semester of the  2009 academic year.

If the letter of acceptance/proof of registration is not available by March 22, 2010, the student should still submit the entry application along with items 1, 2, and 3.  The selection committee will make the selection but no announcement or award will be made until the letter of acceptance/proof of acceptance is received.  This must be received by 1 May 2010 or the runner-up will be awarded the scholarship

JUDGING
             Judging is confidential and will be based on the following formula:

                              Community involvement - 50%
                              Grades - 30%
                              Essay - 20%

             All entry applications, along with the accompanying data must be in a sealed envelope.  On the front of the envelope,
             write "Scholarship Program" and deposit in the SERTOMA box at the Rancher's Market, 9001 Elizabeth Lake
             Road, Leona Valley, or mail to SERTOMA, P.O. Box 723, Leona Valley, CA 93551.
